Tips & Ideas
If you have hedging as your boundary, leave a space between it and the back of the borders of at least 2ft to allow easy access for pruning the hedges. The pathways could be grassed, then join the main lawn at either end for mower access. Alternatively, use bark or gravel, though you will then need to keep rogue growth at bay.
To increase root growth and lessen greenery for crops such as carrots, beetroot, parsnips, the Ph level of your soil needs to be low - around 4/5. Laying wood chippings across the soil leeches out nitrogen, the chemical that increases Ph. If you have a shredder, hedge trimmings are very good for this job if left to dry out for a while before laying on the soil.
